UNESCO YOUTH PROGRAMME 2016 TANZANIA 4 MONTHS PROGRAMME (JANUARY – APRIL 2016)

INTRODUCTION

Young women and men have got the creativity, the potential and the capacity to make Change happen for themselves, for their societies, and for the rest of the world. UNESCO’s work with and for youth is committed to empowering young women and men and helping them to work together to drive social innovation and change, participate fully in the development of their societies, eradicate poverty and inequality, and foster a culture of peace.

Youth are not just beneficiaries of this work they are essential actors in finding solutions to the issues faced by young people in the world today. Their energy and leadership has been demonstrated across the world, and they must be fully engaged in social development themselves and supported in this work by their societies.

The United Nations defines ‘youth’ as persons between the ages of 15 and 24. However, we know that the experience of being young can vary enormously across the world, and that ‘youth’ is often a fluid and changing category. As such, context is always an important guide in UNESCO’s definition of youth on specific occasions, and this definition is flexible and can vary between countries and regions.

UNESCO YOUTH PROGRAMME 2016

UNESCO Youth Programme is the programme under UNESCO National Commission of the United Republic of Tanzania; through the programme young women and men will come together and bring their collective energy, creativity and vision to the table. Through different activities such as debate, discussion, Forums, Workshops, Dialogues, Outreach,Training and Online discussion for action, reflecting the most pressing needs and concerns of youth today in the fields of UNESCO’s work.

MAIN OBJECTIVE
To create an enabling environment by bringing youth voices to the fore and encouraging young people to come together to take action toward peace and sustainable development.

EXPECTED OUTCOMES
To participants
·         Starting local small peace and sustainable development projects in their areas.
·         Be able to participate in community development processes.
·         Mobilize other youth to take actions toward peace and sustainable development.
·         Interact with other people in impacting their communities.

To community
·         Become aware of UNESCO activities.
·         Starting local friendly projects collaborating with UNESCO National Commission.
·         Take actions toward peace sustainable development.

It is expected that the programme will provide a road map and establish mechanisms that will act toward ensuring that youth are engaged in UNESCO and development activities. On the other hand to ensure Sustainable development and lead action to promote peace and sustainable development in their communities

Target group derived from the following categories; Higher learning institutions, colleges and universities.
