60 Vacancies at Ifakara Health Institute (IHI)

VACANCIES ANNOUNCEMENT
 

Summary:
Ifakara Health Institute (IHI) is a non-governmental institute based in Tanzania with a mission of developing and sustaining health research capable of generating new knowledge and relevant information for public health policy and action. IHI is one of the leading research outfits in Africa maintaining collaboration with several other research institutes in the world.

The IHI in collaboration with Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (MUHAS) is undertaking a project titled “ENAP Metrics Facility Based Testing Research”. Every Newborn Action Plan (ENAP) metrics facility-based testing study is a 2.5 years project that will be implemented at Muhimbili National Hospital and Temeke Regional Referral Hospital in Tanzania. This is an observational study with the overall aim of validating a proposed set of coverage indicators on care for mothers and newborns at and around the time of birth.

The IHI is looking for active and experienced Nurse Midwifes, Medical Attendants and Field Interviewers to work for the five selected interventions in two facilities (Muhimbili National Hospital andMTemeke Regional Referral Hospital). The Data collection phase is expected to be done for six (6) months – starting from June 2017.

1. POSITION: NURSE MIDWIFE (46 POSTS)

Report to: Site supervisor
Work station: Dar es Salaam

Duties:
 To collect data at Muhimbili National Hospital and Temeke Regional Referral Hospital according to study protocol.
 To ensure all study related forms are properly and accurately filled and data is entered daily according to the standard operating procedures (SOPs).
 To perform data extraction from the facility registers.
 Collect information using tablets.
 Observe and document timely the clinical practices for the targeted five indicators.
 To provide expertise in clinical research activities to ensure protection, rights, safety and wellbeing of the patients/study participants.
 To ensure the study is done according to the research ethical guidelines.
 To ensure that participant's privacy and confidentiality are maintained.
 Communicate with other study staff regularly at scheduled meetings and active participation in all meetings.
 To ensure the availability and safety of necessary equipment for data collection. 
 Maintain appropriate working relationships between the hospital staff and other key units within Muhimbili National Hospital, Temeke Hospital and IHI at large.
 Retain high level of public and community support and trust, e.g. in relation to research ethics and effective communication.
 Respond to queries, concerns and issues raised by the supervisors/Technical cocoordinator/Project leader/Principal investigator.
 Participate and contribute to project report writing.
 Undertake any other tasks that the Principal Investigator/Technical Co-coordinator/Project Leader/site supervisors shall reasonably require from time to time.

Qualification:
 Diploma /Advanced Diploma in Nurse Midwifery from any recognised institution.
 Prior experience working in clinical research is an added advantage.

Skills and competence:
 Ability to work successfully in a team.
 Sensitivity to the economic, cultural and political issues that affect research activities in the context of Tanzania.
 Ability to work with minimal supervision and yet maintain team work.
 Fluent in both Kiswahili and English languages.

2. MEDICAL ATTENDANTS (10 Posts)

Report to: Site supervisors
Work station: Dar es Salaam

Duties:
 To identify and provide written informed consent forms; assign participants to the clinical observers/ interviewers and track them within the facility until their discharge for appropriate study data collection at Muhimbili National Hospital and Temeke Regional Referral Hospital according to study protocol.
 To ensure all study related forms are properly and accurately filled and data is entered daily according to the standard operating procedures (SOPs) to all enrolled participants before discharge.
 To track all study participants who consented for the study and inform clinical observers/ maternal recall interviewers for study procedures according to SOPs.
 Collect information using tablets.
 To ensure protection, rights, safety and well-being of the patients/study participants.
 To ensure the study is done according to the research ethical guidelines.
 To ensure that participant's privacy and confidentiality are maintained.
 Communicate with other study staff regularly at scheduled meetings and participate actively in all meetings.
 To ensure the availability and safety of necessary equipment for data collection.
 Maintain appropriate working relationships between the hospital staff and other key units within
Muhimbili National Hospital, Temeke Regional Referral Hospital and IHI at large.
 Retain high level of public and community support and trust, e.g. in relation to research ethics and effective communication.
 Respond to queries, concerns and issues raised by the supervisors/Technical Coordinator/Project Leader/Principal Investigator.
 Participate and contribute to project report writing.

 Experienced Medical Attendant / Form Four/Form Six level with clinical background.
 Prior experience working in clinical research is an added advantage.
 Prior experience in collecting research data.

 Sensitivity to the economic, cultural and political issues that affect research activities in the context of Tanzania.
 Ability to work with minimal supervision and yet maintain team work.
 Fluent in both Kiswahili and English languages.

3. FIELD INTERVIEWERS (4 Posts)

Report to: Site Supervisor
Work station: Dar es Salaam

Duties:
 To collect data at Muhimbili National Hospital and Temeke Regional Referral Hospital according to study protocol.
 To ensure all study related forms are properly and accurately filled and data is entered daily according to the standard operating procedures (SOPs).
 Conduct exit interviews with mothers at hospital.
 Collect information using tablets.
 To ensure protection, rights, safety and well-being of the patients/study participants.
 To ensure the study is done according to the research ethical guidelines.
 To ensure that participant's privacy and confidentiality are maintained.
 Communicate with other study staff regularly at scheduled meetings and active participation in all meetings.
 To ensure the availability and safety of necessary equipment for data collection.
 Maintain appropriate working relationships between hospital staff and other key units within Muhimbili National Hospital, Temeke Hospital and IHI at large.
 Retain high level of public and community support and trust, e.g. in relation to research ethics and effective communication.
 Respond to queries, concerns and issues raised by the supervisors/Technical Coordinator/Project Leader/Principal Investigator.
 Participate and contribute to project report writing.
 Undertake any other tasks that the Principal Investigator /Technical Co-ordinator/Project Leader/site supervisors shall reasonably require from time to time.

Qualification:
 Diploma in the field of Social Sciences from any recognised institution.
 Prior experience in qualitative research is essential.
 Prior experience working in clinical research is an added advantage.

Skills and competence:
 Ability to work successfully in a team.
 Sensitivity to the economic, cultural and political issues that affects research activities in the context of Tanzania.
 Ability to work with minimal supervision and yet maintain team work.
 Fluent in both Kiswahili and English languages.
