The pursuit of holiness is task and is highly
demanding. Phil.2:12-16. It is must be approached with all sense of responsibility,
giving no place to the devil to operate. Eph 4:27
1. Lack of
Depth in Gods Word.
It
was the depth Jesus had in the word that delivered him from the tempter. He was
able to maintain a live and walk in it. Mat. 4:1-4.
By
his depth in the word, he overcame the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes
and pride of life.
2.
Wrong Location. 2Sam.11:1-17
At
the time when Kings ought to be in the battle field King David stayed back at
home, though it is his legal house but at that time was a wrong location to be.
He saw the wrong thing and committed adultery, operated falsehood, and ended up a murderer.
3.
Wrong Company
- 1 Cor. 15:33; Prov. 13:20; 28:7
This
is when your association with someone leads you to committing sin or breaking
God’s covenant. The association and interaction of Eve with the serpent that
was not in anyway at the same platform with her led to the fall of the first
family. Gen. 3:1-6
4. Pride
Pride
results in many ways. When one is not easily correctible, it is pride and in such
a situation holy living becomes difficult because when he is wrong cannot be
corrected by God’s word. Pride also displays itself as an over estimation of
self, thinking at all times that you know what is good for you, God’s opinion
is never considered. This births rebellion. Saul is a good example. 1 Sam. 15:
10-11, 17-23.
5.
Disobedience
The Shepherd and the sheep relates on the
basis of instructions. As long as the sheep obeys the instructions of the
shepherd their relationship remains cordial and fruitful, otherwise the sheep
will be found wanting. The Lord is my Shepherd I shall not want…Ps.
23:1
The
Lord, the Chief Shepherd leads in the path of righteousness (Psalms 23: 3).
Obeying his dictates unreservedly, automatically keeps us in the path of
holiness.
Saul disobeyed; he fell out
of relationship with God and also lost his kingdom. 1Sam 15:18-22
6. Lack of Wisdom Ps.
101:2-4; Mat.7:24-25
It takes wisdom to obey and
operate by God’s Word at all times. Lack of it results in unholiness. Whatever the
challenge and level of temptation may be, wisdom will help the saint maintain spiritual
stability. Isaiah 33:6. Anyone who
continually abides by God’s will, will definitely walk in his ways and
invariable in holiness. David behaved himself wisely towards Saul and was never
found to offend God or Saul in all he did while serving Saul, in spite of
Saul’s mischief. 1Sam.18:5, 14-16
7. The Ignorance of the Last Days Trap Of the Devil. 2Tim. 3:1-9
Many believers who are
ignorant of the level of spiritual lawlessness that will pre-occupy many in the
last days found themselves trapped by opening up to such people who have been
caught in the web. As the scriptures has instructed, we should turn away from
such. However, you must be aware of how they operate and take relevant steps to
do away with such people who are creeping into the house of God. You must also ensure
such traits are not found in you too.
